Pieter Sonneveld

Professor Pieter Sonneveld, MD, PhD was born in The Nederlands in 1951. He received his medical degree from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, The Nederlands in 1977. In 1980, he completed his PhD thesis at the University of Leiden and worked subsequently for 2 years at the National Cancer Institute in the USA. Currently, professor Sonneveld's is head of the Department of Hematology at the Erasmus MC.

Professor Sonneveld was one of the founders of the European Myeloma Network (EMN) and currently is the chairman. Within EMN, he jointly organized a cooperative network for clinical trials, which has resulted in 4 large European Intergroup trials and scientific workshops for standardization of diagnostic methods in Europe. Within EHA, professor Sonneveld serves on the Fellowships & Grants Review Committee, is chairman of the Scientific Working Group on 'Multiple Myeloma' and has been reviewer for many years. He serves on the scientific advisory boards of the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF), the International Myeloma Working Group and the International Myeloma Society and has been a member of Editorial Boards of Blood, Leukemia, Leukemia Research, Haematologica and Annuals of Haematology. Professor Sonneveld is the author of nearly 300 scientific publications and several book chapters.
